Cycling Essentials

A 5 day comprehensive cycle repair & maintenance course for the keen amateur cyclist incorporating professional bike fitting and a performance coaching assessment.

Course Description

With a move towards greener forms of transport, this course will ensure people who use their bike for commuting, gain the necessary skills to maintain and repair their bike. Cycling is also very beneficial for mental wellbeing and this course will give you the skills needed to maximise your cycling experience.

 

This course is aimed at cyclists of any discipline or fitness level that want to have a good understanding of how to inspect, maintain and repair your own bike/s. In addition, you will learn how to maximise enjoyment of the bike through good fit and comfort and gain an understanding of the principles of training & recovery needed to achieve any personal cycling goals or ambitions.

Course Content

  • Systematic demonstration & practise of essential periodic bike checks
  • Demonstration of home mechanics tool kit, consumables and spares identification and sourcing
  • Supported strip, repair, service and assembly of your own bike/s (You should bring 1-3 bikes to the course)
  • Basic consumables such as fluids and lubricants are provided. Any replacement parts needed, can be supplied at competitive prices provided they are available in stock or by speedy delivery
  • Group ride on scenic local roads, to teach skills of group riding

Bespoke Individual sessions will take place throughout the week looking at the following:

  • Basic Bike fit – attendees will be checked against their current bike. Adjustments or recommendations will be made.
  • Training plan (Please notify a member of staff if you wish– Attendees who wish to will have an assessment of their current training or regular cycling pattern. Advice will be provided on improving focus for achieving any goals (duration, performance, increased flexibility, weight loss etc.).
    Analysis will be through verbal discussion and/or interrogation of any online training tools you may already use (such as Strava, training peaks etc.)

Final Assessment & Qualifications

You will be sent a form along with your course Joining Instructions, to be returned to us prior to attending the course. This form will ask for details on the bikes you will be bringing and your cycling experience.

 

Attendees may bring 1 – 2 bikes with them to work on during the course. If you are unable to bring a bike The Bike Inn can provide you with a bike to work on.
